The Story of Sentinel Leisure Trust
Sentinel Leisure, a Trust that manages a variety of UK-based leisure facilities, has announced its partnership with Virtuagym to build online community groups to boost member engagement and interaction around the Trust’s facilities.
Virtuagym’s management software will be used to set up online community groups to create better interaction between gym staff and members. The platform will also be used for staff to share their health and fitness knowledge with members across all of the Trust’s facilities.
Stuart Everett, Managing Director at SLT Group, said: “We pride ourselves as being forward thinking and innovative, and always looking for the next advancement across various industries to improve our services to our members and communities. However, finding suitable technologies that have the same flexible adaptation capabilities are hard to find.”
The great thing about the Virtuagym software is that it can be tailored to your business. It’s adaptable to any facility and any service, which is why it suits our business needs.

“We’re an innovative trust, and we’re keen to encapsulate education and health through our services and facilities. Virtuagym have helped us build an app where everyone has the ability to interact with our instructors, participate in fitness groups and build up the social community side on the app. This is a way for us to serve the community and educate them about the health benefits of physical activity outside of our facilities.”
Chris Ames, Director of Business Development for Sentinel Leisure Trust said that the community element would help motivate and inspire members on their fitness journeys.
“We wanted to build a community where members can join groups that are relevant to them, i.e, bodybuilding or weight loss, and build an environment where members support and motivate each other. Also, from a managers’ perspective, we felt an app would help us to identify the effectiveness of our instructors and their ability to challenge and engage members on the community boards.”
Rob Johnson, Operations Director for Sentinel Leisure Trust added: “Through the app, we want to have greater communication with members which we hope will drive down attrition rates. Our current goal is to get the app built to incorporate our core values, get it running and get people to use it often.”
A holistic approach to health is a big part of Sentinel Leisure Trust’s vision for the future. The Trust is planning to having a nutritionist on staff at all of its locations. Virtuagym’s nutrition guidance tools, which includes nutrition guidance, lets members track their nutrition independently, or step in and offer them expert guidance, will provide another digital extension to the Trust’s platform.
Johnson said: “We’ve built up a great partnership with the Virtuagym team. It’s been an easy process to communicate exactly what we’re looking for. They’ve done a great job to tailor their software to our needs and requirements.”
